Bio

Fiona Donovan is an AACTA Award-winning Production Designer whose career spans over three decades of excellence in film, television, and theatre. Most recently, Fiona reached a prestigious career milestone, winning the AACTA Award for Best Production Design in a Feature Film for her work on the film The Correspondent directed by Kriv Stenders. Fiona’s architectural background—having completed her first degree at Canberra University before graduating from NIDA in 1992—informs her meticulous approach to world-building. She is perhaps best known for her celebrated work on the internationally acclaimed period drama A Place to Call Home, for which she received four AACTA nominations and won the 2017 AACTA Award for Best Production Design in Television.

  • Feature Films: In addition to her recent win for The Correspondent , Fiona’s feature credits include the horror thriller Sting (for which she received a 2025 APDG nomination) directed by Kiah Roche-Turner , the Stan original Christmas Ransom, and the sci-fi thriller Ascendant.

  • Television: Fiona designed the Logie and AACTA-winning miniseries The Twelve (for which she received a 2023 APDG nomination), both seasons of the hit comedy Frayed (for which she received an AACTA nomination on series 2), and the upcoming ABC series Caper Crew. Her diverse portfolio also includes the Erotic Stories anthology (SBS), Back to the Rafters (Amazon Prime), and Between Two Worlds.

  • Art Direction: Fiona has art-directed major international productions, including Spa Weekend(yet to be released ), Truth, The Shallows, and Pacific Rim Uprising, alongside domestic hits like Love Child and Crownies.

Fiona’s work is characterised by a sophisticated visual language that seamlessly blends historical accuracy with contemporary cinematic flair.

In 2023 Fiona was appointed to the Creative Workplaces Council – an initiative of the Australian Government’s National Cultural Policy, designed to promote fair, safe and respectful workplaces for Australian artists and arts workers.
